Each year we commission an artist to help produce 12 original works of art that speak toward awareness and education for animals in danger.
Michael C. Rodriguez
Michael is an artist & multimedia designer living and working in Houston, TX. He interweaves fine art, street art, the art of illustration and graphic design while addressing the constructs of 21st century painting - most specifically pop art.
Through his works Michael also nods to nature, celebrating members of the animal kingdom from dogs and cats to bears, birds, foxes, gorillas, and even dinosaurs. Utilizing crisp, linear compositions and compelling characters he creates an experience of bringing the beauty of the past to the present.
Growing up, he was always interest in art and design, but notes that his real dedication and passion started ten years ago when he had an opportunity to move out of state to design for a major record company. However, Houston remained in his heart and he promised to himself that if he moved back he would dedicate himself to be more involved in Houston's creative culture and do what he could to contribute and inspire as much as possible.
Since that time, Michael has reached out to his peers and worked with countless local businesses, musicians, artists, publications and organizations. Monthly, he dedicates his time to small art projects with inner city youth organizations.
“It's a very exciting time,” says Rodriguez. “We have so much talent in Houston, Texas and beyond, and I am looking forward to our future. I love seeing our local community come together. Contribution and inspiration is so important for all of us to grow.”
His illustration work has been in national publications such as Variety, Wired, and Juxtapoz. He has designed artwork for a number of major record labels including Warner Brothers Records, Interscope and Universal Music Group. In addition, he has worked with internationally recognized musicians such as Death Cab for Cutie, Bob Dylan, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Beastie Boys and The Suffers.
In 2014, Michael was named one of the six young artists who are reshaping Houston's art scene by Houstonia magazine. And in 2018, his artwork was featured in a Houston related segment on NBC’s “Little Big Shots”.
We couldn’t be more thrilled to have Michael on the team.
